The new Majestic Princess
Last February, 8th 2016 was launched by Fincantieri, at Monfalcone shipyard, the new Royal Princess class “Majestic Princess” owned by Princess Cruises ( Carnival Group). Following the Italian shipyard’s custom, the float out of a ship begins when a “madrina,” or godmother, cuts the cord that signals the flow of sea water into the ship’s building dock.
Executive Vice President of Fleet Operations Mr Keith Taylor and recently appointed Majestic Princess Captain Mr Dino Sagani represented Princess Cruises at the ceremony. Captain Sagani’s mother, Ms Graziella Sagani, served as the ship’s “madrina.”. Home-ported in Shanghai, the “Majestic Princess” is scheduled to begin operating during the summer of 2017 and it will be the first international vessel designated to exclusively serve the Chinese market year-round.
“Majestic Princess” is sister of previous “Royal Princess” and “Regal Princess” launched in 2013 and 2014: with an overall weight of 145,000 gross tons will be able to accommodate 4,250 passengers on board. Everything has been studied for maximum care and fun of passengers on board: the largest outdoor screen at sea, an airwalk and obviously a wide choice of different cuisines ranging from Italian to Chinese one.
One more curiosity, together with “Majestic Princess”, it has been added also the Chinese name of the vessel, 盛世公主号 (Shèngshì Gōngzhǔ Hào) : more or less “Grand World” or “Grand Spirit”. Fincantieri has built 70 cruise ships since 1990 (of which 47 from 2002), 33 of which were built in the shipyard in Monfalcone, and other 14 ships are currently being designed or built in the Group’s yards.
